The beluga whale who inspired the most popular children's song "Baby Beluga," died now in the Vancouver Aquarium. At 46 years of age, she spent her entire existence in the aquarium, and resided considerably longer compared to average beluga whale. She died Monday mid-day in the aquarium.


An initial autopsy shows Kavna likely died of cancer. Aquarium vet Dr. Martin Haulena told reporters the lesions and growths he found "are most in line with cancer, which is regrettably an illness we connect with age," Citytv reviews. Belugas typically live 25 to 3 decades.


Since 1979, Kavna continues to be connected using the song "Baby Beluga," in regards to a baby whale playing within the ocean. Singer/songwriter Raffi Cavoukian visited the aquarium, and it was motivated to write the song in regards to a baby beluga like Kavna:
