Old safe given away for scrap filled with gold coins

A Houston scrap collector hauled a classic protected from a family's home, however when the vault was pried open he discovered it held a lot of money in coins and silver dollars.


The guy who opened up the safe was David Molick, who owns Robbie's Key & Lock shop who told Caramba Today the scrap collector requested him to interrupt in to the safe prior to being converted into scrap about last month.


"He demonstrated us a picture of the safe, and that i saw it's a higher security one," Molick stated. "It had been real nearly impossible to find into. It had been pretty pummelled. Appeared as if somebody had attempted forcing their distance to it because the front was pummelled.Inch


Molick stated he spent greater than 20 hrs attempting to open the safe a week ago. Finally, after drilling 10 holes through six-inch walls of concrete, he discovered a bonanza.


"I figured, 'Oh, this ain't real,'" Molick stated. "There have been 50 Krugerrands in a single pipe, and completely new, not-circulated silver dollars in ammunition boxes. These were more than half full. The whole safe must've considered a minimum of 3,000 pounds." Molick estimations the safe to contain $2.5 million.


Molick then known as law enforcement and set a lock back around the safe the following day.


"We temporarily required custody of the children from the coins on Monday," stated Houston Police Department representative Keese Cruz.


Cruz rejected to estimate the need for the coins.


"I haven't got a precise number, but there is a considerable amount," he stated.


The scrap dealer and also the family that initially possessed the safe have continued to be anonymous, but Mike DeGuerin, a lawyer for your loved ones, told Caramba Today affiliate KTRK the coins were came back towards the family. He told the station the household's father have been saving them for many years, but passed away lately. Somebody that was helping his family obvious the garage was handed the safe to market as scrap, but was designed to return anything within value once he determined a method to open it up.
